Sobre este artículo

New York: Basic Books Inc, (1965). First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/fine. 189p octavo illustrated. First American edition from the British Sheets. Small sticker shadow on front flyleaf, paperclip offsetting on a few pages else near fine in dust jacket. George M Houser and Jean Houser's copy signed: "Jean & George Houser" in Jean's hand. with pencil underlining and scoring on a few dozen pages of text. George M Houser was an important civil rights activist including advocating for the independence of nations in Africa. An American Methodist minister, cofounder of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) in 1942 with James Farmer and Bernice Fisher, and served on the staff of the Fellowship of Reconciliation during the 1940's and 1950's. Houser helped found in 1953 the American Committee on Africa (ACOA); from 1955-1981 he served as Executive Director of the ACOA and he also was Executive Director of the Africa Fund from 1966-1981. A pretty copy and a nice association copy of an elusive and early Nelson Mandela publication in the United States
