Large quarto (9- 1/8" x 12-1/4") bound in imported gold-toned Shiki silk, bearing on the front cover a drawing by Vertes, with a matching linen spine stamped in gold. Translated by Charles Stuart Calverley with an introduction by Moses Hadas. Copy #1087 of 1500 designed by George Salter with 25 color illustrations by Marcel Vertes and SIGNED by the artist on the colophon page. Monthly Letter laid in.
Sinopsis
Virgil, born in 70 B.C., is best remembered for his masterpiece, The Aeneid . He earned great favor by portraying Augustus as a descendant of the half-god, half-man Aeneas. Although Virgil swore on his deathbed that The Aeneid was incomplete and unworthy, it has been considered one of the greatest works of Western literature for more than two thousand years.
