An uncommonly good-looking, structurally sound exemplar of a classic in critical sociology by an acknowledged master critics of poverty, urban planning, architecture and social relations in Los Angeles. Fine-looking, structurally sound hardcover, little discernible wear, bright interior, unmarked but for small remainder dot along bottom edge. Bright and shiny dust jacket, illustrated, little worn. The author is perhaps best known for City of Quartz, Late Victorian Holocausts, Planet of Slums, and Magical Urbanism and justly was awarded the MacArthur Fellowship. Born in 1946 and having passed away just recently, a profoundly influential historian, political activist, urban theorist, and author. Mike Davis was a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Creative Writing at the University of California, Riverside, and an editor of the New Left Review. He is thought of as being steeped in the tradition of socialists/architects/regionalism advocates such as Lewis Mumford and Garrett Eckbo both of whom are cited frequently here. Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. Frontis matter, 484 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
Sinopsis
A former meatcutter and long-distance truck driver, Mike Davis has taught urban theory at the Southern California Institute of Architecture, was a fellow at the Getty Institute, and was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship. He is the author of Prisoners of the American Dream and City of Quartz. He was born in Fontana, a suburb of Los Angeles, and now lives in Pasadena.
