Sobre este artículo
zviii+238 pages with plates, maps, charts, tables, bibliography and index. Octavo (8 3/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's green cloth with brown lettering to spine in original publisher's pictorial jacket. First edition. The cargos are religious offices occupied on a rotating basis by the men of the community. The incumbents receive no pay; rather, they spend substantial amounts of money in carrying out their duties, in effect exchanging money for social position. It is shown that the social and economic stratification of the community is clearly expressed in the cargo system. The tendency of the cargo system to keep Zinacantan isolated from the Mexican world is analyzed, along with the present and probable future effects of growing population and expanding economic opportunities. Condition: Corners bumped. Jacket: edge wear with some small chips and tears, spine toned else a very good copy in like jacket.
