A study of the economics and technology of the early industrial era, a popular work written while the author was working on his famous proto-computer the "Difference Engine." Signed to Henry Ingersoll Bowditch (1808-1892) a prominent physician and abolitionist. He played an essential role in assisting freedom seekers escaping slavery through Boston. He was longtime friends with Frederick Douglass and other members of the freedom movement. Signed.
