"Winter Tea Party" is one of only ten (10) creations selected by Edward Gorey as among his very best, with each print issued in the two Limited Editions. There is no ISBN. The Limited-Edition Print is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Edward Gorey and Signal Prints: Print size is 11 X 9 inches. The matting and framing significantly enhance and enlarge the presentation, at 16 X 14 inches. The matting is archival cream stock art paper. The framing is combination-material: Black "matte-finish" wood frame on the sides, "glossy-finish" metal frame in front. Eminently suitable for display. Without DJ, as issued. One of his most imaginative inventions, in all its Gorey detail: A group of five adults, dressed in thick winter coats, sit in an elaborate, snow-capped gazebo, silently and stoically awaiting service amid the cold. The butler, formally attired but not appropriately dressed for the freezing weather, approaches, bearing an elaborate tea setting. Two children, a boy and a girl, sit atop a friendly and accommodating alligator wearing skates. Two adult figures, a man and a woman, look like frozen ghosts. Various personal belongings, including a pair of sunglasses, fly, headed in the direction of the gazebo and its occupants. This is Gorey World, in all its glory, where every hilarious yet tender scene is a surreal fantasy rendered so vividly and meticulously by the artist as to be (almost) believable. An absolute "must-have" collectible, not just memorabilia, artwork for Edward Gorey collectors. This is a copy of "Winter Tea Party" Limited Edition of 850 numbered and signed lithographic prints, indicated as such at the bottom, on recto. It is very prominently, neatly, and beautifully numbered and signed in pencil by Edward Gorey. It is signed directly on the print itself, not on a tipped-in page. This artwork is a great Gorey classic. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the Limited Edition Print available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright.
