Sobre este artículo
New York: E. P. Dutton, 1937. 1st US edition. Hardcover. Very good overall. Wilson was a physician, naturalist, ornithologist, painter and naturalist on both of Robert Scott's expeditions to the Antarctic. He was one of three who undertook a winter expedition to the rookeries of the Emperor penguin, the subject of Cherry Apsley-Garrard's book "The Worst Journey in the World". On the "Terra Nova" voyage, he was one of the group who raced to reach the South Pole, only to find that Amundsen had beat the British there. On the return journey, he and his companions died, a national tragedy in England at the time.
8vo, xxxiv, 301 pp. Color frontispiece portrait, 16 black and white plates (15 from sketches by Wilson and one photo portrait), and 3 maps (1 folding). Original blue cloth in the illustrated dust jacket. The dust jacket chipped at head and tail of spine, and triangular loss top of rear panel, ruffled at edges. Previous owner bookplate at front paste down. Rosove 296.B1.a. Spence 1080.
