One of a lovely series of classic books for young readers in The Children's Bookshelf Series published by John C. Winston. Each was illustrated by famous artists of the day, this one by Clara Burd. Orig. published in 1875, this was the first edition with these illustrations (First, Thus) from 1931. Throughout the 253 pages, there are 3 full-color, full-page illustrations (the Frontispiece is NOT there, but was neatly sliced out( & 8 full page illustrations in black-and-white. Hardcover book has blue boards, very faded gilt lettering to spine, & a colorful front paper pastedown. Condition is Good- (minus, basically a reading copy): generally clean, but well loved. Heavy edgewear all around down to underlying boards at corners & ends of spine. Some erased pencil marks noted, else unmarked.
