Sinopsis
Thornton Niven Wilder was an American playwright and novelist. He received three Pulitzer Prizes and won the National Book Award in 1968 for his famous novel, The Eighth Day . The story is set in a mining town in southern Illinois in the early 1900’s. John Ashley, a gifted engineer as well as an accused murderer, has been sentenced to death for the shooting of his best friend during their friendly weekly rifle practice. His flight to freedom comes on the eve of his execution and the mystery continues to haunt the victim’s young wife and children. The book moves forward and backward in time to explore the reactions of the community and of the family to the bizarre events that transpire. A beautifully written family sage by one of America’s most epic authors.
