Sobre este artículo

New York: Prentice - Hall Inc., 1948. Very Good condition in a Very Good dust jacket. NOT price clipped ($2.75). The jacket is protected by a removable clear-plastic sleeve. Red background color of the jacket's spine is uniformly sun faded, as usual. But its lettering remains unfaded -- clear and distinct. Sharp corners. Previous owner's bookplate on the bottom of the half title page, causing minor wrinkling. Newspaper clipping (announcing Kay Summersby's second wedding) is laid in leaving brown offset to the pages on each side. 1948. First Printing of the First Edition. Illustrated with 10 b/w plates including a frontispiece portrait of General Eisenhower in uniform. Bound in the original blue cloth, stamped in bright silver on the spine, with a silver Women's Army Corps (?) logo on the front. Complete with dust jacket. "Kay Summersby, was a member of the British Mechanised Transport Corps during World War II, who served as a chauffeur and later as personal secretary to Dwight D. Eisenhower during his period as Supreme Commander Allied Expeditionary Force in command of the Allied forces in north west Europe… Summersby was assigned to drive then Major General Dwight Eisenhower when he arrived in London in May 1942… Summersby chauffeured Eisenhower and later became his secretary until November 1945… During this time Eisenhower rose in rank to a five-star General of the Army and Commander of the European Theatre, and Kay, with his help, became a US citizen and a commissioned officer in the US Women's Army Corps (WACs), ultimately leaving the service as a captain in 1947…. President Harry S. Truman reportedly told author Merle Miller that in 1945, Eisenhower asked permission from General George Marshall to divorce his wife to marry Summersby, but permission was refused. Eisenhower biographer Jean Edward Smith wrote, 'Whether he and Kay were intimate remains a matter of conjecture. But there is no question they were in love.'" -- Wikipedia.. First Printing of the First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good condition/Very Good dust jacket. Illus. by NOT a library discard. 8vo. (xii), 302pp. + 10 plates. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

Sobre About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
