Toledo, Oh: Electro-Chemical Ring Company, [1897-1900]. General wear. Minor penciling and small stain on front cover. . An 8 page fold-out brochure for Electro-Chemical Ring, which was a device that help against "rheumatism in all its forms". The Electro-Chemical Ring was an actual ring that one wore which supposedly "acts directly on the acid in the blood, [by] supplying electricity in the proper proportion, reducing the intensity and quantity of the acid until there is no surplus", at which point the ring would become like any other ring worn. The ring, which could also be purchased in gold, not only cured rheumatism, but also a variety of other diseases caused by 'acidic' blood, such as: Bright's Disease, bladder stones, diabetes, painful or irregular menstruation, gravel, gall stones, jaundice, neuralgia, and gout. They majority of the brochure is text, with two of the pages written in German. However the front and back pages have small black and white illustrations of the ring, a diagram of different ring sizes, and an illustration of children at play in a park. The Electro-Chemical Ring Company appears have been started in the late 1890s by W. G. Brownson, and was at that point located at 311 Spitzer Building in Toledo, OH. Based on other company advertisements, particularly ones in newspapers, the company remained there between 1897-1900, at which point it moved locations within the city of Toledo. 8 pg. folded brochure, two pages in German. 0 OCLC (Jan. 2020). Measures 6 1/4" x 3 1/2" (folded), 13 1/2" x 6 1/4" (unfolded).
