A book about the author's exploration of a the southern beginnings of a 'road to the north' planned by British colonialists and imperialists. It involves travels in the area of the north-western border of the Republic of South Africa, Botswana, and the west-central region of Zimbabwe and examines the history of the region. this includes conflict between the Boers and Britons as well as the Tswana and Ndebele. There are also stories of noted imperialists Cecil Rhodes, David Livingstone, and Lobengula.
