Good-VG. 11.5 Cms x 20.00 Cms. f/piece+viii+194+(2, pub's phrenology list), 4 plates, 24 un-numbered text figs (some of these showing more than one face however); fr. gutter cracked and a little loose, prev.owner's 1970 sig. front pastedown (mine alas)+ sm.label removal ghost, otherwise internally clean and unmarked; very attractive covers with impressed (or embossed) quite elaborate floral design, sp.moderately faded, sp.label chipped, trace of an early sm.round label bottom sp.but no other indications this was ever in an institutional library, top.sp.a little rubbed with a sm.nick top fr.joint. At this point the number of 'organs' had risen to 33. Early appearances of many of the figs. which became routine in phrenology books throughout the rest of the century inc. the 'Old Miser' and the 'Idiot, Aged 20'. A well above average copy, the fr.gutter problem can be easily rectified and the covers give it an added appeal.
