Sobre este artículo

Northhampton , 1907. Letter. Very good. Bifold letter, bordered black, with creaslines and mild toning, paper residue from assume album placement, small paper clip rust line. [2] p., signed. Part of the Spencer line, Charles Robert Spencer was known between 1905–1910 as The Right Honourable Viscount Althorp. He was the great grandfather of Diana, Princess of Wales. Dear Mr. Acland: Forgive the informality of my thus addressing you, but your Father and I have been such friends for years that I hope that you will forgive me. I wonder if you could and would come and say a few words to my Volunteer Company on the 28th Nov. at our annual dinner at Althorp. I should be so very grateful if you could possibly manage it though I know how fearfully busy you are - The men are a little nervous about the new army scheme and a word from you not from [--] and the war office would be the greatest encouragement to them. I should be delighted if you would come and sleep here after the dinner. Althorp is only 3-1/2 miles and we should not have a long [---] as the meal is at 6:30 pm. Yrs truly, Althorp. In his letter, Althorp when referring to 'home' speaks assumedly of the Dallington House. However, after dying childless in 1910, John Spencer, 6th Earl of Spencer, passed the grand property Althorp to 6th Earl Spencer (Charles Robert/Viscount Althorp), who served also as Lord Chamberlain from 1905 to 1912 in the Liberal administrations headed by Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman and H. H. Asquith. Dallington [Hall] became Margaret Spencer Home of Rest, now divided into apartments.
