Sobre este artículo

Chicago: Laird & Lee, 1891 Golden Rod ed. INSCRIBED by author. 371pp. + ads. t.e.g. cloth 12mo w/gilt decorations: ex lib. copy; white ink Dewey "Read" on spine; no other external markings; text is age browned; hinges are cracked but firm; else a nice complete & tight copy with the author's revelatory inscription. Authorial inscription is on a small sheet of Press Club of Chicago stationery that has been tipped down to the front pastedown: "My Dear Visscher [William Lightfoot Visscher]: With the exception of another story 'nameless here for evermore,' this book is my first, and into it I have put myself; and therefore it is full of faults. But I have a fondness for Bonlore. Opie Read." A unique bit of Americana from the Tennessee-born humorist Read (1852-1939). The Kentucky-born actor, poet and novelist Visscher (1842-1924) had published "Blue Grass Ballads, and Other Verses" in 1900 and would publish "A Thrilling and Truthful History of the Pony Express" in 1908. An interesting association copy.

Sobre Auldfarran Books, IOBA

"I have spent many delightful hours poring over the . . . lists of second-hand booksellers. . . . All these are redolent of romance. They are much more entertaining than half the novels that are written." -W. Somerset Maugham. Auldfarran Books, whose name is taken from an antique Anglo-Scots word meaning "having the sagacity of age," or "wise beyond one's years," is a professional antiquarian and secondhand bookseller (since 1993), and member of the International Association of Online Booksellers, dedicated to the ancient proposition that reading is good for you and, to that end, the enhancement of readers' and collectors' libraries (and even the development of libraries' libraries). Whether you're a voracious, moderate or casual reader, or even if you believe (in the words of Anthony Burgess) "there's no better reason for not reading a book than owning it," we encourage your inquiries and special search requests. E-mail is the best way to get in touch with us.
