Sobre este artículo

London, England: George, Allen and Unwin, 1948. 307pp/illus. This is one of Professor Lewis’s finest works and it went into a second edition after the war in 1948. He examines the origins and development of the sea-officer from earliest times, producing the first comprehensive book on the subject. Divided into four parts, the first is entitled : The Antecedents of the Naval Officer and traces his ancestors, examines the link between seamanship and fighting, and describes the birth of the naval officer. Part Two : The Profession in the Making looks at the supply of officers, their entry and naval training and their service and after-care on retirement. Part Three : Some "Old Officers" gives account of the Lord High Admiral and his deputies, and officers of the old Navy Board. Finally in Part Four : The New Officers, the author examines the Flag-Officers, Ship-Officers holding a commission, "Warrant" Officers, "Civilian" Officers, and the Engineer, bringing the history down to 1939. Illustrated with excellent plates. Pages lightly yellowed. Small tear in dj at center of spine, Text clean.. 2nd Printing. Cloth. Very Good+/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
