It began emerging as a field arguably with Eileen Power's work, Medieval People (1924) and has since worked to highlight the lives of underrepresented individuals throughout history. Indeed this work has been dedicated to Eileen Power. George M. Trevelyan (1876-1962) was a British historian and academic, specialising in social history, no doubt influenced by his ties with the Whig and Liberal political parties.
