Sobre este artículo

London: Printed for G. G. and J. Robinson,, 1797. First edition of Godwin's collection of essays, each self-contained, and based on observation rather than the deduction of his Political Justice. The radicalism which Godwin is known for is somewhat tempered in the collection, and he intrudes little on political matters, but the essays are nonetheless a significant exposition of Godwin's thought on a variety of subjects. The essay on education which begins the collection was called by Godwin's biographer "the most remarkable and advanced treatise on education to appear at the end of the eighteenth century" (Marshall, William Godwin, pp. 164-5). Godwin published the work at a consequential time of his life, the same year his wife Mary Wollstonecraft died following the birth of Mary Shelley. Octavo (209 x 128 mm). Contemporary calf, red morocco label, smooth spine ruled in gilt. Complete with half-title and terminal errata. Light wear at spine ends and tips, minor rubbing, scattered foxing, small chip at bottom fore corner of pp. 231/2 not affecting text and repaired tearing to pp. 481/2 affecting text without loss. A very good copy. ESTC T94276; Goldsmiths' 16911; Kress B.3397.
