Very scarce detailed eyewitness information on settlement garrison at Port Essington including fatalities, natives, food [or lack of it], health, commerce, descriptions of natives, Dutch establishments, D'Urville, geography, natural history and likely successful commerce including trepang, cotton and cane. Relates Flinders meeting a fleet of sixty Prahus from the Celebes trepang fishing and cites many other sources including Lieut. King. Also information on success and failures of Melville Island settlement, the troubles with settlement at Raffles Bay. The loss of the Lady Nelson and the Stedcombe and shipping movements in and around Torres strait.
