Very rare privately published cord bound soft cover book containing two short stories by Balzac, An Episode During (Under) the Terror, and The Requisitioner. In very good clean condition throughout, with gift inscription assumed to be from the translator to ffep. Some foxing to edges of text block not affecting the pages.
The publication of this book is in memory of Theodore Gosselin (Georges Lenotre) the French historian and writer who specialized in the history of the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror, who died in 1935. Research has uncovered nothing about the people responsible for the publication of this scarce title, but as Lenotre was known to them it may be that it was a small British based French History / Literature society, possibly linked to Oxford University.
