It is compilation of a series of articles by Guevara that had originally appeared in Verde Olivo, a weekly publication of Cuba's Revolutionary Armed Forces.This is the first English language edition published in Cuba one year before the 1968 International Publishers edition titled Reminiscences of the Revolutionary War. The "Reminiscences" version formed the basis for the Steven Soderbergh movie "Che" starring Benicio del Toro.The Cleveland Press in reviewing the 1968 book said "When Che Guevara cast his lot with Marxism and revolution the world of letters suffered an incalculable loss.
