London.. 1796.. Antique botanical etching, printed in color with added handcolor, plate size approximately 10 1/2 x 7 inches on sheet 16 1/2 x 10 inches, wove paper. Very good condition (small embossed area from paper clip at upper edge, well outside image which is clean and bright). A yellowish orange flower with botanical details, a single plate from H. C. Andrews's "Coloured Engravings of Heaths" which was published between 1794 and 1830. Exquisitely etched and colored. "Blunt described this work as Andrews's 'finest achievement ... notable in conception and impressive in execution'. Andrews drew and engraved all his plates, wrote most of the text and, according to Dunthorne, even did his own colouring." (de Belder, "Magnificent Botanical Books" #5). .
