Sobre este artículo

Pamphlet, 8vo, printed wrappers, errata, illustrated with 6 engraved plates, 48 pp. Lacking rear wrapper, old dampstain to gutter, wear to front cover and spine, normal aging, errater slip just laid in, library discard stamp to title page; good. Rare early pamphlet on torpedoes with illustrations of ordinance. In 1849 John Ericsson designed the first metal-hulled propeller-driven warship-the Princeton. He was also the designer of the famous "Monitor", the Civil War ironclad which design was originally rejected by the Navy. Only through direct appeal to President Lincoln was Ericsson awarded the contract to build the ship. Construction began in 1861 and was completed in 118 days.
