Bodley Head,, [1952]. 8vo., First Edition, with a portrait frontispiece and 3 plates of maps in red and black, neat contemporary inscription on front free endpaper, rear endpapers lightly spotted; cloth, gilt back, a very good, bright, clean copy in price-clipped dustwrapper, the latter lightly frayed at extremities. Striking wrapper artwork by Ley Kenyon (illustrator of Brickhill's 'The Great Escape). Captured in Greece during the evacuation, Driver Francis Jones spent the remainder of the war in a series of escape attempts covering Greece, the Greek Islands, Italy and Germany. A lone escaper with no 'X' or escape committee for support, his experiences against impossible odds makes an 'other ranks' escape story with a difference.
