Sobre este artículo

Chicago: Esquire, Inc.. Very Good+. 1937. First Edition. Soft cover. 250 pages; Chicago: Very Good+. 1937. First Edition; First Printing. 250 pages; Publisher's color pictorial wrappers, lettered in white against black panels, with contents list -- black on silver along the fore-edge of the front cover. Excellent condition with just light hints of rubbing at the spine ends. With one of F. Scott Fitzgerald's short stories -- "The Honor of the Goon. " [One of several stories Fitzgerald sold to Arnold Gingrich for Esquire in 1937 at his usual rate for the magazine: $250]. Also with an article by Jim Tully about Charlie Chaplin, stories by Jesse Stuart, Waldo Frank and Morley Callaghan, two Hollywood portraits from photographs by Hurrell -- [Ann Dvorak and Else Argall] and a full page Petty drawing. Almost without exception, these pre-War issues of Esquire offer hours of diversion to the modern reader, not least from the ads. This issue offers many such diversions, including a small photo, buried within a full page ad for the 'New York Herald Tribune' -- an image of Washington columnist Joseph Alsop at 27 years of age, wearing his trademark bow tie, but nearly unrecognizable, since he was carrying 100 excess pounds which he lost before becoming famous -- [see p. 24]. An even younger man has an article in this issue -- Fletcher Knebel, who would not become a household name for another 25 years when 'Seven Days in May' was a huge bestseller. [see p. 59. There is another tiny photo of Mr. Knebel in "Backstage with Esquire" -- which mentions his recent college graduation and employment for a year with the Cleveland 'Plain Dealer. '] .; Americana and American History, Ephemera, Most Recent Listing .

At The Antiquarian Book Shop, located in Georgetown - an historic neighborhood of Washington, D.C. we have been buying, selling & appraising rare, interesting and scholarly books in Georgetown for more than 30 years. Over those many years we have taken great pleasure from satisfying our customers' eclectic literary requirements in the shop and hope to continue in that tradition now that we have moved our operation on-line.Currently, our catalogued inventory includes about 4,000 books from the sixteenth century through the twentieth century in a variety of subject areas. Our stock comprises antiquarian books, collectible books and scholarly books, as well as a selection of antique prints and ephemera. The books listed here represent only a small portion of our total inventory. We are in the process of cataloguing the extensive holdings in our warehouse (15,000+ books) and hope to flesh out these pages over the months to come. Our new format allows us to expand & update our listings frequently. We have included images of many items listed to better convey their quality and condition.
