This appreciation by Thackeray prompted by his boyhood admiration for Cruikshank who would "forego tarts" to be able to afford a book, or set-up a "joint stock company of boys" to fund a purchase and then draw lots for the prints. COHN 789. Raised bands, spine panels richly gilt, inner dentelles, marbled endpapers, triple gilt border fillets with Cruikshank signature in gilt front cover. Adhesions to marbled endpapers front cover, modest extremity rubbing, spine label lacking.
