Interestingly, the title page has a prior publication date (1947) than what the copyright page says (1948), but a presumptive First Edition nevertheless. A fine collection of essays by Alexander Marx (1878-1953). Sturdy, attractive, tightly bound, internally clean hardcover copy, with unbruised tips, neat and tidy paste-downs; not ex-library, with neither highlighting nor underlining. Bright and shiny dust jacket, illustrated, showing only moderate wear, mostly to tips and along edges, protected by a plastic coat, dust jacket not being price-clipped. Comprised of 12 biographies, of Rab Saadia Gaon, Rabbenu Gershom, Rashi, Maimonides, Moritz Steinschneider, David Hoffmann, Mayer Sulzberger, Solomon Schechter, Joseph Jacobs, Henry Malter, Max Leopold Margolis, and Israel Friedlander the Scholar. Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. x [2], 3-298 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
