Etidorhpa, an allegorical hollow-earth fantasy (Aphrodite in reverse), was written by a prominent Cincinnati Pharmacologist, who describes a journey led by a mysterious being known as I-Am-The-Man, in which the main character (Llewellyn Drury) is shown a world of wonders and horrors, fueled by sacred mushrooms and other ingestibles. Illustrated to unsettling effect by Augustus Knapp.
