Finely illustrated with 8 full colour tipped-in plates, 24 full page mono plates, decorative title page and 26 vignettes, some repeated throughout the book. Top edge with original publishers black stain, the others untrimmed. Black endpapers. A fine, clean copy in publishers black cloth. Black and gold printed onlay to the front board. Spine with gilt lettering and small publishers design. The design gilt is rubbed but the lettering is fine and bright. Remains of the rare original illustrated dustwrapper loosely inserted. Most of it present, if torn and a little creased, apart from the front inner flap, so it could be easily restored if required. Housed in the original publishers black paper covered box with colour plate onlaid to the top. The box is rubbed and a bit bumped to the edges but overall in very good condition. Inscribed by Steadman on the dedication page in the year of publication, with characteristic flourishes; "Eleanor. Its only paper. Ralph (Steadman that is). 10. 12. 75". Mono illustrations throughout by Steadman. Original black stiff card binding with a mono illustration to the front panel and purple and white lettering. A little bumping to the corners but overall a very good copy.

William Blackwood and Sons. Edinburgh and London. 1915. FIRST EDITION. (7.5 x 5 inches). Some minor browning to page edges, as is often the case with this title, but less so than usually found. Publishers blue cloth which is rubbed and bumped to the edges and has a white mark to the front panel but overall a very good copy.

Arrow books Limited. London. An Arena book. 1985. FIRST EDITION. (7.6 x 5 inches). Several mono full page illustrations throughout by Ahmet. Very good copy in publishers colour printed wraps. Some very minor rubbing to the edges and a small black ink mark to the bottom of the fore edge but overall a very good copy.

Eveleigh Nash & Grayson Limited. London. 1923. Large 8vo. (9.6 x 6.6 inches). Colour frontis and fifteen mono plates by Worth Brehm. A very good copy finely bound in recent full tan morocco, raised bands, two red labels, gilt. Decorative gilt border on boards. Top edge gilt. Half titles present in all three volumes. Two leaves duplicated and incorrectly inserted into the end of volume two, namely 2 pages from the index which appears in volume 3 have been bound in in error, one where page 513/4 should be (easy to see how, both leaves share the signature Ll), the other at the end of the text where a blank should be, and the two leaves of Appendix are bound in the wrong order but complete. A neat previous owner name to the top of the title page in volume 3. Some foxing and offsetting of the text block to a few leaves in each volume, particularly the first pages of volume one, but overall a very good set. Finely bound in recent full antique speckled brown calf. Spines with five raised bands, the compartments decorated and ruled in blind. Red and green labels, ruled and lettered in gilt. Published on behalf of the subscribers by William MacLellan. Glasgow. 1955. FIRST EDITION, first impression. 4to. (11.2 x 8.9 inches). Illustrated with several full page and smaller illustrations by Fergusson, one in green ink, the others all in black. Publishers green cloth with gilt decoration to the front board and spine lettered in gilt. Some faded spots to the spine cloth and some spotting and offsetting to the blank endpapers otherwise a very good bright copy in the original dustwrapper which is decorated and lettered in white on green paper. Some very minor rubbing to the extremities but overall a very good book in a better than very good dustwrapper. First impression, one of about 140 to 150 copies printed and issued to subscribers. A trade issue was published the following year. There is a list of the 135 subscribers printed at the rear of the book. --- A note from Fergusson on the decorations appears before the main text. EXTRA ILLUSTRATED SET. 6 published engravings by Cruikshank plus an extra 98 plates, mostly 18th and early 19th century, including one hand coloured engraving, and one colour lithograph. Finely bound in nineteenth century full red morocco by Zaehnsdorf. Boards with multiple ruled borders and inner panel with decorative corner pieces. Spines with five raised bands, each with gilt piping. Compartments fully gilt with decoration and lettering. Inner boards with gilt ruling and decoration. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. A little rubbing to the extremities and a couple of very minor bumps to edges but overall a near fine bright set in lovely decorative bindings.
