The text is based on Johne and Berners, and is intended "to encourage our young readers to think for themselves...". Original brown cloth decorated in gilt and blind (spine perished with boards pulling away; heavy wear to edges of boards; owner's ink signature and pencil inscription - Dec. 25th, 1842, Philadelphia, of Lavinia Horstmann- plates subtly browning with occasional foxing to text). Extremely rare. .
