Churchill, 1932-2017, who was Emeritus Professor of the History and Philosophy of Science at Indiana University, his signature in pencil at front end page and his tidy scholarly marginal pencil notations scattered throughout the text. The Rev. John T. Gulick, 1832-1923, is considered one of the pioneers of modern evolutionary thinking, based on his studies of Hawaiian snails of the genus Acatinella.
