Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Full gilt-stamped calf over boards, black and red spine labels, top edge gilt, gilt inner dentelles, marbled end papers, 374 pages, seven heliotype plates, three of which are foldout, illustrated with in-text images as well. First edition second issue with "that" misspelled on page 208, plates with Arabic numbers, lacks the publisher's ads at the rear. Front board is detached, wear at extremities, some foxing on versos of plates, staining on page that faces one of the folding plates, minor staining on plate itself.
