Sobre este artículo

New York and Boston: Hurd And Houghton / E. P. Dutton, 1865. First edition. Hardcover. Good. Henry Walker Herrick. 12mo, xii, 311 pages, red bevelled publisher's cloth, rebacked with original spine laid down, original floral endpapers, all edges gilt. Variant with gilt fox in a circle on covers.

This is Samuel Croxall text, unattributed, with a lengthy "Application" at the end of each of the 110 fables here. For example, "The Hunted Beaver" draws comparisons to the Inquisition, and persecution of the Jews - with advice I do not comprehend. Illustrated by watercolorist Henry Walker Herrick

Sinopsis

Sardonic, wry and wise, Aesop's Fables are some of the most enduring and well-loved literary creations in history. In a series of pithy, amusing vignettes, Aesop created a vivid cast of characters to demonstrate different aspects of human nature. Here we see a wily fox outwitted by a quick-thinking cicada, a tortoise triumphing over a self-confident hare and a fable-teller named Aesop silencing those who mock him. Each jewel-like fable provides a warning about the consequences of wrong-doing, as well as offering a glimpse into the everyday lives of Ancient Greeks.

Sobre Thomas J. Joyce And Company

Joyce And Company has been in business as a professional rare bookseller and appraiser since 1975. Owner Thomas Joyce was the regular book appraiser on Home & Garden TV\'s \"The Appraisal Fair\\\" program, on international broadcasts. Thomas Joyce was the co-discoverer of George Washington's personal copy of William Leybourn's 1679 edition of THE COMPLEAT SURVEYOR, from which young Washington learned some of his surveying skills at age 16. The book had vanished for nearly a century until its re-discovery in 2017. It is now back at Mt. Vernon.
