In his vibrant and stylish illustrations for this edition of Aesop's Fables, Edward Detmold exhibits aesthetic influences drawn from a variety of sources, including Japanese and Chinese paintings, Art Nouveau, and classical Western art. His magnificent color plates are magnificent examples of his artistic skill. 11'' x 8.25''. Original light orange cloth boards with gilt stamping. Pictorial endpapers of birds in shades of brown. Illustrated with tipped-in color pictorial frontispiece and 22 tipped-in color plates, all with printed paper guards; black-and-white line images throughout. xvi, 152 pages. Some light wear and spotting to cloth. Front hinge cracked but firm. Leaves with a couple tiny ;closed tears, other faint signs of handling. Colors vibrant.
