Sobre este artículo
[Original artwork]., 1921-1933.. Five original ink and watercolour drawings, plus one ink drawing, depicting various fairy subjects, with titles including "The Wedding of the Rose", "Autumn", "The Lost Fairies", and "The Elfin Artist", four on card, two on paper. Signed, titled, and dated by the artist to the foot. All unframed, three mounted. The images measuring 37 x 22.5cm; 26.5 x 18cm; 25 x 19cm; 15.2 x 11.7cm; 23.3 x 9.6; and 28.2 x 15cm. "Autumn" with toning to the paper, some light scattered foxing to the blank margins/mounts of the others, toning and chipping to the extremities of the mount of the largest watercolour, and the ink drawing with several vertical creases and scattered foxing - otherwise the images are in very good condition. A charming group of skilfully-executed fairy paintings showing the stylistic influence of Edwardian 'Golden Age' illustrators such as Arthur Rackham, by the artist, miniaturist and calligrapher Enid Sybil Mills (née Smith, 1901-1985).
Mills studied at St Martin's School of Art and the Central School of Arts and Crafts, where her teachers included Walter Bayes and Bernard Meninsky. She exhibited at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, the Royal Watercolour Society, and the Royal Miniature Society, of which she was elected a member in 1961.
