This is the first US edition published in New York after the London edition of 1928 by the same press. DJ is in poor shape with several chunks missing. Decades ago someone tried to save the jacket by neatly reinforcing the edges and front flap hinge with masking tape. They then treated the sticky side of the tape which was exposed with something to make it stiff. Over the decades the tape is become dry and brittle. Blue cloth boards underneath show only minor fading to the edges and a few spots, corners and edges show very light minimal wear. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, nothing torn or loose and pages are square. All of the illustrations have been verified as being present. The only issue with the interior of the book is on the end pages and pastedowns as they show toning caused by reacting with the dust jacket paper over the many decades. The book feels like it did not get much use at all and the pages are clean.
