New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1933. The Capek brothers were leading lights in early 20th-century modernism; Karel wrote speculative fiction that is always on lists of the top titles. Joseph was murdered in the camps; Karel beat the Nazis by dying before they could get him. Here is one of their joint projects, a Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine copy of the First American Edition, which is less common than the English version. Translation from the original Czech by M. and R. Weatherall. Tan cloth binding, with green illustrated front cover, green titles on the spine. Clean text; 288 pages. Lacking the dustjacket, with a slightly darkened spine. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. First American Edition.. Hard Cover. Near Fine/No Jacket. Illus. by Joseph Capek. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
