Sobre este artículo

London: J. M. Dent & Co. / and Sons Limited, 1897. First Edition . Hardcover. Good. W. B. Macdougall. The pair of volumes on Germanic heroic legend by partners Armour & Macdougall. Each work is translated by Margaret Armour and illustrated throughout by William B. MacDougall. The 1897 Nibelung caught Macdougall near the peak of his artistic output, while the much later published Gudrun (1928) is a little distance from that peak. NIBELUNG: largely a translation of Simrock's arrangement of the mediaeval text, with input from Bartsch and Niendorf, in plain prose rendering so as to be as near as possible to the original. Bound in brown cloth boards, toned, over lighter blue cloth spine, darkened and re-backed. Bookplate of Donald & Norah Van Den Bergh central to front pastedown. All edges untrimmed. Contents generally clean, but for a little browning towards edges & some scattered foxing. Structurally sound with edgewear. Good. GUDRUN: Armour likens Nibelung & Gudrun to Iliad & Odyssey. 'file copy' marks to endpapers. Light edgewear, a few small marks to spine. Contents clean. Very Good. 21.1cm & 19.6cm tall respectively. Collated complete. Sobre Bard's Bookshelf

Armchair Books ekes out its intense and blustery existence on Edinburgh's hallowed West Port... Ancient home of booksellers. In view of the castle, above the Grassmarket, it bakes under the torrid Scottish sun. The dangers are manifold; our overburdened shelves groan like masts in a squall, our threadbare and quasi-oriental rugs may distractingly catch the eye or foot. Books in the window may spontaneously burst into flames, and the Managers must be kept locked in at all times... Sporadically under feeble but sinister attack by the government, we struggle under goad of fear, towards Beauty.
