The death in 1982 of the artist Elisabeth Chaplin, French by birth Florentine by adoption, brought to light a vast collection of more than 5000 letters beginning in 1884 and in which the difficulties encountered by the five members of her family are discussed in the context of the various social, political and artistic events that determined their fate.
