Description: From the publisher's prospectus (laid in): '''You asked me, K' the author of these poems has written in a recent letter, 'why I have called this book Familiar Journey. I ask you in turn what else I could have called it. For love is not something that belongs to any one of us, but a road we travel, a ritual journey, an ancient pilgrimage.' The title poem images a literal journey along a road familiar to its author; a journey she travels frequently through a landscape of many vistas, in which the aspect of mountain, sky and river-bed changes at each bend in the road. The poem is figurative as well; this whole singing suite of poems deals with that journey between the inward and outward world which is familiar to all who let life happen to them as landscape happens on a highway instead of trying to select from life only what seems appropriate to the individual ego.'' Author Peggy Pond Church was a native of New Mexico. In addition to her poetry she wrote a book on Edith Warner called The House at Otowi Bridge.
