N.d., c.1883. The frontis plates of the first and second volume are loose, some rubbing to corners. Pencilled ownership signature each volume, otherwise clean. Very good condition. Charmingly illustrated and comprehensive decriptions of English wildflowers by Frederick Edward Hulme (1841 - 1909), artist, botanist, teacher, natural historian and Fellow of the Linnean Society. Each flower is painstakingly illustrated in colour by Hulme and described in detail, including its habitat and medicinal use. There were eventually nine volumes, the last of which was published posthumously. This is a lovely collection of the first four, in very good condition and uncommon in this beautifully decorated binding. Decorated Cloth.
