Sobre este artículo

Cambridge: The Limited Editions Club, 1958. Hardcover. Introduction by Robert Cantwell. Engravings by Agnes Miller Parker. Small 4to. Quarter natural sheepskin with gilt spine lettering and decorative paper over boards, slipcase. xxi, 401pp. Illustrations. Very good/near fine. Spine (only) a tad rough, else tight and internally fine and bright. Nice tight copy of the LEC's eighth title in their 26th series, with colophon at rear noting limitation of 1500 numbered copies (this #982) signed boldly in full by illustrator Parker -- and this copy with the separate 6" X 9" print laid in (in publisher's wraparound sleeve), signed and dated by Parker in pencil at lower margin (same image appears on page five of text). This tale of love and betrayal set in earthy rural southwest England was first published in 1874 to great acclaim. Also laid in are the "Monthly Letter" and publisher's 5½" X 8½" announcement leaflet. A wonderful copy with the often-absent Parker print present. NEWMAN 287.

Sinopsis

Far from the Madding Crowd (1874) is Thomas Hardy's fourth novel and his first major literary success. It originally appeared, anonymously, as a monthly serial in Cornhill Magazine, where it gained a wide readership; critical notices, too, were plentiful and mostly positive. Hardy revised the text extensively for the 1895 edition, and made further changes for the 1901 edition.
