Articles recommend travel routes from Boston, some of the perils of camping, favorable fishing spots and the like.**Captain Charles Alden John Farrar (1842-1893), publisher of this guide, trained as a printer in Boston as a teen, later becoming a newspaper editor. His precocious business talents led him to launch a number of successful business ventures in the western Maine Rangeley Lakes Region beginning in the 1870's. This encompassed a rail link, stage coach and steamboat travel, a number of hotels and incidentals such as this guide book. The State of Maine granted Farrar, and his investors and business associates, a monopoly on travel to, and business in, this area. An interesting case study in nineteenth century vertical integration. Relatively Scarce. Ref:W. Krohn, Bethel Maine "Courier", (2012.). 12th Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good Minus. Illus. by various.
