He also wrote novels set in northern Kentucky. This is the first novel in his Stringtown series. Stringtown was closely based on Lloyd's hometown of Florence, Kentucky. Several of the descriptions of places and events in the book are full of what would now be considered historical details. The description of court day in Burlington is a particularly nice example in which the past comes alive through Lloyd's writing. Stringtown on the Pike was published in 1900, and was an immediate sensation throughout the Greater Cncinnati and Northern Kentucky region."
