The book is devoted to the most influential and important women in the world history of warfare and their deeds: the Amazons, Deborah (prophetess of the God of the Israelites), Olga of Kiev (regent of Kievan Rus' for her son Sviatoslav), Joanna of Flanders (Duchess of Brittany), Joan of Arc, Alena Arzamasskaia (the Russian Joan of Arc, who fought in Cossack Stepan Razin's (Peasants' Revolt) revolt of 1670), "Amazons battalion" (special corps for Catherine II the Great in Crimea), female soldiers in the South America wars of independence (1808-1824), Agustina de Aragon (the Spanish Joan of Arc), Nadezhda Durova (Russian patriotic icon who participated in the Napoleonic wars in the Russian cavalry as a man), Vasilisa Kozhina (Russian guerrilla in the Patriotic War of 1812), Eliza Lynch ('National Heroine' of Paraguay), Milunka Savic (Serbian war heroine), Evgeniya Shakhovskaya (Russian pioneering aviator), Constance Markievicz (Irish suffragist who was the first female cabinet minister in Europe), Maria Bochkareva (the head of Women's Battalion of Death in WWI), Hanna Reitsch (German aviator), women in the Women's Army Corps (WAC), female combatants in China, Israel, Vietnam, Indonesia, etc. The text is also accompanied by rare photos of some women.
This book was prepared by Sergei Shpakovskii (?-1977), the White Army officer, who emigrated to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in 1920.
According to the author's preface, this is the first book about women as a soldier in the world.
