Sobre este artículo

San Francisco:: The Femina Company, , 1893.. Hardcover first edition -. Good overall in embossed dark brown cloth with gold lettering on the spine and front cover. Missing front endpaper, rear hinge cracked, and usual toning to the pages, but despite the flaws this is still a very sturdy copy on a hard to find book. . First edition. The author was a graduate of the Medical Department of the University of California who also held credentials from the Universities of Berlin and Heidelberg. The prefatory note indicates that this work, deals mainly with inflammatory diseases in women and while imparting strictly scientific information, uses familiar language, avoiding technical terms where possible, to make it accessible to the general reader. For example, in a chapter entitled "Delusions on the Curative Powers of Drugs" Miller emphasizes the body's ability to heal itself. There is also an occasional reference to patent medicines like the "gentle Femina laxative syrup." Frontispiece portrait, illustrated with several full page drawings. Index. 422 pp.
