Sobre este artículo
This is an antique book of cake/pastry decorating, "FIGURE PIPING - Its Methods and Uses" by F. Russell. 1903 1st edition; Baker and Confectioner; London. With illustrations throughout. The chapters are as follows: Outline - Birds; Outline - Animals; Bas Relief; Menus; Miscellaneous. There are 2 pages of ads at the back of the book. ("Figure Piping" is a term used to describe the art of squeezing icing from a pastry bag onto the surface of a cake to form a desired shape.)
From the Preface: "(The author) has been known for some time past as one of our most skillful and artistic pipers, and the specimens of his work, which have been shown principally at the Food and Cookery Exhibition, have excited the admiration of the casual spectator, and have received the more solid applause of the judges of the art. The reproductions we give here, though some of them have lost a good deal in losing colour, are certain to please all and will probably excite many to emulate. And these last will find that Mr. Russell is as clear in his instructions as he is artistic in his work. This book ought to do something to extend among the trade the practice of the most fascinating branch of ornamental art - Figure Piping - and it is with that view that it has been produced."
Condition:
Light soiling/staining to the covers. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Occasional stains on the pages; larger stain on the blank back of the contents page; the front end paper has some light foxing and an inscription written in pen.
