Nicolas Barlow is - like the author - involved in the book publishing industry. He discovers his highly disliked dragon of an editor dead in the New York office, and must pound the pavement, (albeit stylishly and with great charm) in his fine Savile Row suit, in order to exculpate himself to the cops.
