London: Cassell and Company, 1931. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. 12mo., 252pp. Beautiful first printing of the "Cheap" Edition, no month,1931. Originally published in 1920. Bound in black cloth with titles and decoration in gilt on front board and spine. Square, tight and solid throughout with little or no wear. Gilt dulled on spine. Previous owners neat signature on both paste-downs. Very well-preserved, Very attractive unclipped, though unpriced, dust-jacket, (1'-), has some light soiling and edge-wear. Crease on the upper front panel. 1" inch piece from the spine. Still quite fresh and bright and scarce in any condition. A very pretty collectable copy. (Hubin, p.343).
Sinopsis
Some of Paul Harley's most interesting cases were brought to his notice in an almost accidental way. Although he closed his office in Chancery Lane sharply at the hour of six, the hour of six by no means marked the end of his business day. His work was practically ceaseless. But even in times of leisure, at the club or theatre, fate would sometimes cast in his path the first slender thread which was ultimately to lead him into some unsuspected labyrinth, perhaps in the underworld of London, perhaps in a city of the Far East.
