Sobre este artículo

MeadWestvaco Corporation , 2003. A beautiful, pristine copy. Very Fine condition. Bright, clean, square, tight, and unmarked. Sharp corners. Pages are fresh and crisp. This 2-part set was privately printed for MeadWestvaco's American Classics Series. The two parts are a 346 page clothbound book; and a separate custom portfolio that encloses a 40-minute DVD. The book is handsomely bound in brown linen. It has circular paste-down reproductions of the Jefferson Peace Medal. Two views of the Medal, obverse and reverse, appear on the front and rear cover, respectively. [This was the Medal that President Jefferson authorized Lewis & Clark to give to important American Indian leaders they met on the expedition, as tokens of distinction and allegiance]. The main volume is illustrated with a full color frontispiece by Karl Bodmer, two different endpaper maps (by William Clark), and numerous facsimiles of original expedition drawings and manuscripts. It also features a built-in silk ribbon marker, and a new introduction by John A. Luke, Jr. The second part is a 40-minute DVD -- LEWIS AND CLARK, GREAT JOURNEY WEST -- that is narrated by Jeff Bridges, and includes an interactive map of the trail.. First Edition Thus (Limited Edition). Hardcover. Very Fine condition/No jacket, as issued. Illus. by Elder, Karen (design). 8vo. 346pp.

Sinopsis

Napoleon Bonaparte of France sold the vast tract of land known as the country of Louisiana in 1803. The price: fifteen million dollars. There was great opposition to this plan which was ridiculed by many who insisted the region was not only wild but uninhabitable and worthless. Lewis and Clark's successful expedition influenced the history of the West immensely and Brooks has done a marvelous job describing that time.

Sobre About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
